Qoys Daryeel and Daryeel Foundation
Qoys Daryeel NGO and Daryeel Foundation have been founded in 2003 by former Somali refugees. Our mission is to mobilize Somali’s and Dutch individuals and organisations to contribute to the development of Somaliland and creating a better future in Somaliland and Rehabilitate and reconstruct the community following the civil war. Till now worked with local organisations on different small-scale water, health and educational projects in Somaliland.
Digging of 5 shallow wells
Five shallow wells were dug, lined with concrete of 102 cm in thickness, covered with cover slab of 15 cm in thickness and 2 M in diameter, the average depth of the shallow wells is 12 M and five hand pumps were installed, tested and handed over to the community, in regard to the project final monitoring and evaluation study undertaken by Qoys Daryeel (Family Care NGO).
Dariiqo water supply systems
Towards the beginning of last year, Qoys Daryeel Submitted a Project Proposal to Aqua for All for the extension of the clean and potable water supply from the sheikh water system.
The back ground for that proposal was basically an observed need for clean Water supply for the community of Dariika through an assessment study undertaken by Qoys Daryeel.
The community of Dariika, which consists of 1500 families, was in an isolated situation in respect to the water supply compared to the other residents of the sheikh village. The Dariika village is about three Kilo Meters a way from Sheikh Village quarters and eventually the main water supply.
The families of the Dariika had considerable difficulties in obtaining clean water for their daily domestic and drinking purposes. The only available water for them, at irregular bases was the rain water harvested through roof gutters caters and cemented small capacity ground cisterns. That type of water supply was in one hand highly contaminated and on the other inadequate. Therefore fetching the good quality water from Sheikh water system through women backs or donkeys was time consuming and tiresome.
On the basis of the above, there was dire need for establishing a more convenient, safer and easier system for supplying good quality water to the Dariika community.
With good will collaboration, Aqua for All accepted and funded the proposal according to the planed contribution bases.
